Nant Melyn Bridge Inspections

Beta Design Consultants provided the inspections for assessment carried out for the A465 Heads of the Valley Bridges – Nant Melyn.

FCC Construction were contracted by the Welsh Government to carry out major upgrades to 18km road stretch of the road. This required the inspection of multiple bridges on the route including Nant Melyn – which had typical bridge defects at joints and hinges. Beta Design Consultants were appointed to provide structural investigation and testing services that included:

Half cell potential mapping.
Corrosion assessment (chloride and carbonation).
Resistivity testing.
Moisture content testing.
Intrusive inspection to examine rebar corrosion extent.
