Beta Design Consultants (BDC) engineers Yousif Abdalla and Fahed Maida shared their expertise at the Concrete Bridge Development Group (CBDG) 2026 Conference.
Their presentation, “CFRP Strengthening of Yeading Lane Concrete Bridge – From Concept to Implementation,” explored the application of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strengthening techniques in bridge engineering.
The presentation included a technical discussion of various structural strengthening methods, highlighting the circumstances in which CFRP can offer a feasible and effective solution. Both the technical and practical advantages and limitations of CFRP strengthening were discussed.
Drawing on the Yeading Lane project, the presenters shared the challenges encountered and explained how Beta Design Consultants approached the structural assessment, CFRP strengthening design and associated quality control measures.
The conference provided an opportunity to share practical engineering knowledge and experience with industry professionals involved in the assessment, repair and strengthening of concrete bridges.
