STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF ALTERATIONS AND CONVERSIONS

Beta structural engineers have extensive experience in the structural engineering design of house alterations and conversions, from relatively straightforward structural elements, such as safe removal of a wall; to more complex extensions and loft conversions.

Our track record includes some very interesting projects that we can apply to your project. We have particular strong experience in the structural design for the following types of alterations and conversions:

The structural assessment and structural design for the conversion of mills into residential or into mixed use developments.

The structural assessment and structural design for the conversion of industrial buildings into residential or mixed use developments.

The structural assessment and structural design for the conversion of agricultural buildings and barns into residential or mixed use developments.

The structural assessment and structural design for the addition of an extra storey/level, or extra load to an existing building.

When adapting an old building or converting a historic building, a sympathetic approach is followed by Beta Structural Engineers. This may involve working with conservation specialists to preserve and strengthen the structure without impacting its historic value. An understanding of the traditional building techniques and of the behavior of materials is essential to our systematic approach. This allows us to retain as much of the original features as possible and only strengthen the structural elements when required.
